What's included in a 30k, 60k or 90k mile service?
Major services build on a regular oil change and inspection. Around 30,000 miles, most cars add engine and cabin air filters and sometimes brake fluid. Around 60,000 miles, many add spark plugs, transmission fluid and coolant on some models. Around 90,000 to 105,000 miles, many belt-driven engines need a timing belt and water pump. The exact list depends on your car, so your owner's manual is the authority, not a shop's generic package.
A typical schedule
Every car is different. This is a general picture of what many manufacturers include.
| Mileage | Common items (in addition to oil, filter, rotation and inspection) |
|---|---|
| 15,000–30,000 | Cabin air filter, engine air filter |
| 30,000–45,000 | Brake fluid (by time, often every 2–3 years), possibly transmission fluid on some models |
| 60,000 | Spark plugs on some engines, drive belt inspection or replacement, transmission fluid, coolant on some models |
| 90,000–105,000 | Timing belt and water pump on belt-driven engines, spark plugs on long-life engines, valve clearance check on some |
| 100,000+ | Coolant (many long-life coolants are due around here), differential and transfer case fluids |
How to avoid over- or under-servicing
- Use your manual, or your car's maintenance reminder, as the reference.
- Ask what each item is for and whether it's on the manufacturer's schedule.
- Check the condition, too. Fluids that test fine and parts that measure fine can wait.
What we do
We service to your manufacturer's schedule, show you what we find, and tell you plainly if something on a recommended list isn't due. Customers have brought us everything from a 70,000-mile service on a Cadillac wagon to a 100,000-mile service on a Lincoln hybrid. Factory maintenance
From drivers who came to us
Took my Cadillac wagon in for a 70,000 mile service. Had it back early the same day. Their shop is clean and well organized.
I always went to the dealer to get service on our vehicles. But lately, I got the feeling that the dealer was recommending unnecessary work… Today I bring my wife's Lincoln MKZ Hybrid for 100k miles of service.
I brought in my recently purchased, used 2013 highlander for a transmission service and rear differential fluid change… even let me know that my differential fluid was actually looking pretty new and wouldn't need servicing.

More questions
Are dealer mileage packages the same as the manufacturer's schedule?
Not always. Some packages add services the manufacturer doesn't list for that mileage. Compare the package to your owner's manual, or bring it to us and we'll go through it.
Can I skip a major service?
Skipping filters for a while isn't a big risk. Skipping a timing belt, transmission fluid or brake fluid can be. We'll help you prioritize if you need to spread things out.
Does it have to be done at exactly 30,000 miles?
Close is fine. Within a few thousand miles, or the time interval, whichever comes first.
