Brake repair and service in San Mateo
We find out why your brakes are making that noise or feel, show you photos of the pads and rotors with measurements, and replace only what's worn. You leave with brakes that stop quietly and confidently, and you know how much life the rest of the system has left.

What we check
A proper brake inspection is more than a look through the wheel spokes. With the wheels off, we check:
- Pad thickness on each side, inner and outer, because they don't always wear evenly
- Rotor thickness and surface, against the manufacturer's minimum spec
- Calipers and slide pins, which can stick and cause uneven wear or a pull to one side
- Brake hoses and lines for cracks, swelling or leaks
- Brake fluid condition and level
- Parking brake operation
You get photos of what matters and a straight answer: what needs replacing now, and roughly how much life is left on everything else.
Symptoms and what they usually mean
| What you notice | Most common cause |
|---|---|
| High squeal when braking | Pad wear indicator touching the rotor |
| Grinding or growling | Pads worn to the metal backing plate |
| Pulsing pedal or shaking wheel | Uneven rotor thickness |
| Car pulls when braking | Sticking caliper or uneven pad wear |
| Soft or sinking pedal | Air or moisture in the fluid, or a leak |
Stop driving and call us if the brake pedal sinks toward the floor, the red brake warning light stays on, or you hear loud metal-on-metal grinding.
Brake work we do
Pads and rotors, rotor resurfacing when there's enough material, calipers, hoses and lines, brake fluid flushes, parking brakes and ABS diagnosis. If another shop or the dealer gave you a brake quote, bring it and we'll give you a second opinion.
Brakes, done honestly
They addressed an issue with my brakes that the dealer had told me was just fine. They not only resolved my issue, but were quick and honest.
I brought my 2017 4Runner to them to have the front brake pads replaced and rotors resurfaced. They provided accurate quotes and gave multiple brand options for replacement parts.
Upon tire rotation Derick let me know (by texting me photo proof) that my brake pads needed changing, my rear pads were almost non existent.
They replaced our brakes and even found a nail in our tire which they removed and patched.

More questions
How do I know if I need new brake pads?
Common signs are a high-pitched squeal from the wear indicator, a grinding sound, a longer stopping distance, or a brake warning light. The only sure way is to measure the pad thickness. Read more about brake squeal.
Do I always need new rotors with new pads?
Not always. If the rotors are above the minimum thickness and not warped or deeply grooved, they can often be resurfaced or reused. We measure them and show you.
Can you look at brakes the dealer said were fine?
Yes. A second look is worth it if the car still feels or sounds wrong. We'll inspect, show you what we find, and explain it.
What brake parts do you use?
OEM or a premium aftermarket part, and you choose. We'll explain the differences in noise, dust and life so the choice is easy.
