Second opinion on a dealer or shop repair quote

Short answer

Bring the quote. We inspect the car ourselves, send you photos of what we find, and go through the list item by item: needed now, can wait, or not needed. You leave knowing exactly what your car needs, so you can decide with confidence.

Why second opinions are worth it

Recommended-service lists can be long. Some items are urgent, some are maintenance you'll want soon, and some are "while we're in there" suggestions that aren't needed yet, or at all. It's hard to tell them apart from a printed quote.

Our customers have brought in brakes the dealer said were fine that weren't, and long lists that turned out to need only a few items. In both directions, the value is the same: you know for sure.

How it works

  1. Bring the car and the quote, or text us a photo of it first.
  2. We inspect each item ourselves, measuring wear and checking for leaks or play.
  3. You get photos and our read on each line: needed now, can wait (and roughly how long), or not needed.
  4. You decide. Have us do the work, take the findings back to the original shop, or wait. No pressure either way.

What we look at most

Brakes and rotors, shocks and struts, ball joints and control arms, fluid flushes, gaskets and leaks, timing belts, and "recommended at this mileage" packages. See how to tell which repairs can wait.

Second opinions that changed the plan

Brakes
They addressed an issue with my brakes that the dealer had told me was just fine. They not only resolved my issue, but were quick and honest.

Hyundai Santa Fe
Upon inspection of my car they told me they disagreed with Hyundai and I didn't need all of the extra work done that Hyundai proposed. They changed only the necessary parts (valve cover gasket and alternator and cleaned up the oil spray mess).

Lexus CT 200h
They completed a full inspection of my car and shared what they found and what I needed to replace via text with pictures… My front ball joints and front shocks looked good and did not need to be replaced per previous recommendations.

Lincoln MKZ Hybrid
I always went to the dealer to get service on our vehicles. But lately, I got the feeling that the dealer was recommending unnecessary work… Today I bring my wife's Lincoln MKZ Hybrid for 100k miles of service.

More questions

Do I need to bring the other shop's quote?

It helps. We'll inspect each item on it, and anything else we notice, so you can compare like for like.

What if you agree with the dealer?

Then we'll tell you that, with photos so you can see why. A second opinion is about knowing for sure, either way.

Can you do warranty or recall work?

Recalls and factory warranty repairs are handled by the dealer, at no cost to you. We can tell you whether an item on your list is likely a warranty or recall issue before you go back.
